The King George's Medical University is a state run university under the Uttar Pradesh government. The Financial needs of the University are met out of grants in aid provided by Government of U.P. and to a little extent by services provided by university and associated hospitals. Some finances are expected by way of fees charged from students of various courses run by the University.
Governmental grants are provided as recurring grants (non-plan) and some sanctions for schemes of development of medical facilities are provided by government in plan-budget as nonrecurring grants.
The university provides education to undergraduate and postgraduate medical as well as nursing students at a highly subsidised fee. The out -patient consultation charges are a meagre Rs. 1/- and admission charges are Rs.35/- only . The admitted patients are provided free professional consultations. However, some charges have been introduced since August 2000 for investigations. The budget for drugs and appliances falls extremely short as compared to the demand. Therefore, a large number of patients end up purchasing medicines and consumable appliances from the open market. Despite a rich clientele and an extremely powerful alumni, the university has not been a beneficiary of appreciable donations.
