Thoracic Surgery was an integral part of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery in this medical University. The workload of cardiac surgery doesn’t permit CVTS department to withstand the surgical works of non-cardiac thoracic and vascular surgeries. Realizing the need of thoracic and vascular surgeries neglected huge workload, the Government of Uttar Pradesh issued a G.O on 16 April 2015 to create two new departments i,e. thoracic Surgery and vascular Surgery in this medical University. The Government also sanctioned budget for construction of an additional one floor over the department of CVTS to house the two new departments. Three posts of faculties and three posts of senior residents were created in each department. Prof. Shailendra Yadav of the department of General Surgery is heading the department of thoracic surgery. Dr Anurag Rai joined as Associate professor in the department Thoracic Surgery on 12th January 2021. Department offers comprehensive care for diseases of the Lung, mediastinum, chest wall, Oseophagous, diaphragm and other intra-thoracic and related diseases including lung cancer. The department is committed to establish a comprehensive thoracic cancer centre in this medical University. The department of Thoracic Surgery caters a wide range of advanced procedures including diagnostic as well as therapeutic interventions in thoracic specialty. The thoracic surgeons work closely with specialized pulmonologists, ICU Intensivist, cardiologist, radiologist, and pathologist to provide a comprehensive team approach for individual case management. The total bed strength of the department is 25 including 5 beds of ICU. The department has 2 major modular operation theatres. At present the department has two faculties, one Professor (Dr Shailendra Yadav ) & one Associate Professor (Dr Anurag Rai ) and 3 residents.
