Emergency Medicine Department was created with the vision of providing holistic and quality emergency medical care to all those who seek it,in the year 2016 by the then Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Padma Shri Prof Ravi Kant.
Prof Haider Abbas is founder Head of the Emergency Medicine Department since its inception. He started from the Emergency room and developed department to its present infrastructure including Emergency Critical Care unit. Medical and paramedical posts were sanctioned for the department including faculty, Senior Residents and Junior Residents. International and National delegations visited the department including one from Chelsea & Westminster Hospital NHS Trust, London and University of North Carolina, USA. He has been awarded FRCP Edinburgh ,FRCP Glasgow, FICS, MAMS,FCGP and ICMR International Fellowship.
Subsequently department progressed under leadership of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Lt.Gen.(Dr) Bipin Puri PVSM,VSM(Rtd) and department got five (05) MD Emergency Medicine seats by National Medical commissionin 2022.

The Emergency Department treats the full spectrum of patients, and plays a pivotal role in the hospital health care system, medical education, and research efforts.
To provide quality holistic patient care in Emergency Medicine Department
To provide quality teaching, training and research to the postgraduates of Emergency Medicine as well as of other disciplines in emergency care.
To educate and train nurses and paramedics of Emergency Medicine as well as of other departments in providing optimal emergency and acute care.
To provide quality education to the undergraduate medical and nursing students
To train doctors, nurses and paramedics from other institutions in emerging areas of Emergency Medicine

To upgrade the Department to meet the international norms and standards in patient care, education and research.

The Department will run postgraduate course leading to the award of MD degree in Emergency Medicine. Selection will be done through national eligibility entrance examination (NEET)
 During the three-years of training, residents will be exposed to diverse emergencies, both pediatric and adult. They will be rotated through other departments to get further exposure in managing emergencies. They will be trained in various emergency procedures such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation, ventilation, hemodynamic monitoring, central line insertions, fracture management, toxicology among others.
Daily academics are in the form of bedside clinics, journal clubs, seminars and lectures. The department encourages publications and presenting papers in national and international conferences.Â
Department has teaching program for residents, Interns and undergraduate students of the university. Every week, one seminar, case discussions and one journal club are held. Besides that, department trains medical and paramedical staff on a state-of-art simulator in the where they learn management of various emergency conditions.
