About Radio - "KGMU Goonj"

Under patronage of Lt Gen. (Dr) Bipin puri, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, King George Medical University, UP, Lucknow, idea of community radio station at KGMU was conceived and conceptualized by Dr Vinod Jain (Professor of Surgery, KGMU), the First Executive officer of KGMU CRS - KGMU Goonj who could succeed to complete this project with his untiring efforts and immense support of KGMU administration as well as Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India. The entire work is done by Broadcast Engineering Consultants India Limited (BECIL), a Government of India enterprise.

Radio is an effective medium through which we can outreach to all sectors of society with low cost in short time span. Our programs greatly benefit the society by taking comprehensive care of their physical, mental, social and spiritual wellbeing

To name few of important ones are -

• Awareness about healthy lifestyle through their food habits, daily routine, exercise, yoga, meditation and other evidence-based facts deliberated by experts in their fields.
• Emphasis on preventive, promotive and curative (including certified home remedies also) aspects of health.
• Awareness about injury prevention, cancer prevention, early detection along with drug/Alcohol abuse and other modifiable variables. This isspecially targeted to children and young population, who are treasure and future of our Nation.
• We reach to unreached population for Health related and social issues through mix of entertainment and information-giving programmes
• We make the population aware of various Government schemes which are implemented from time to time for benefit of society as well as we provide current knowledge through short news which are interposed between programmes.
• To generate congenial atmosphere in society, wemotivate different subsets of population to have better social connectivity and unity to build strong Nation.
• We believe in spreading message for unity, sovereignty and Nationality through various programmes.
• We always try to generate positive thinking through spiritual programs involving important persons of different faiths and belief.

We connect with society through many ways. To name few

• Our volunteers go and record messages of highly effective person of society to broadcast it for masses.
• Our volunteers interview population of all sectors of society including BPL ones for their concerns especially about health, education and social issues to solve them through interview of experts in respective fields.
• Experts living in local community including doctors, their spouses, educationalists, journalists, legal experts, social activists, spiritual persons or even common persons doing some extraordinary workare invited to Radio KGMU Goonj. Their deliberation and message to society not only influences them but also helps them to have feeling of belongingness.
• To socially connect with them, programmes are broadcasted in Hindi, English and Awathi language Talks broadcasted in Awadhi is highly effective for rural population.
• People from local community are called at Radio Goonj to give motivational and healthy entertainment program on air and off air to get them associated with CRS.
• Views and concerns of common man are broadcasted in their voice with effective solution by concerned officials
• On-air quizzes are organized and winners are asked to visitradio station. This activity motivates them to work for social cause.

We have found that large number of population including affluent class is unaware of healthy lifestyle issues, preventive and promotive aspects of physical, mental, social and spiritual health. Community is very keen to listen experts of KGMU and other reputed institution about their health-related problems.
Community also needs comprehensive information about health care delivery and available schedule of specialists in KGMUalong with different medical institutions.
Community finds that information given byKGMU Goonj will be authentic and they can follow the suggestions without hesitation. Community is also eager to share their own experiences and views for benefit of society.
Students and patients are invaluable ambassadors of KGMU Goonj. Their constructive participation makes it more popular.
King George's Medical University, UP. Lucknow does not differentiate persons on basis of their caste, creed or religion for treatment, teaching, training and Research. Therefore, community feels that KGMU Goonj will be a great venture to create atmosphere of national harmony and help social engineering.
