History:
The Pedodontics subject was previously clubbed with Orthodontics at the undergraduate level. In the dental college, the division of Ortho-Pedodontics was existing as a separate entity.
The Head of Pedodontics division was Dr. R.K. Roy. With the exhaustive effort of Dr. R. K. Roy, the Post graduate course in specialty of Pedodontics was started in 1967 with 4 students.
The faculty of Dental Sciences, in K.G's Medical College came into existence in 1981. With the inception of faculty, the separate department of Pedodontics was established.
Prof. Satish Chandra took over the charge of first Head of Department and continued for approximately 16 years. He published approx. 38 textbooks.
Prof J. N. Jaiswal has took over the charge on 1st Nov 1999, and continued as Head of Department upto September 2002.
Prof. R. K. Pandey took over the charge in 2002 and continued till 16th January 2018.
Prof. Rakesh Kumar Chak took over charge on 17th January 2018 till 6th July 2021. Prof. Rajeev Kumar Singh took charge as HOD on 7th July 2021 and continuing till date.
Goals and Objectives of Department
Maintain functioning, esthetics and arch integrity of the primary dentition.
Treatment and prevention of dental caries in primary and young permanent teeth.
Child dental health care education to parents.
Providing for patient's immediate dental needs and initiating good attitudes towards dental health

The department is presently engaged to set up a "Dental home" for the pediatric population that provides regular "anticipatory guidance" for oral health maintenance under the supervision of expertise consultants.
