The Department of Pharmacology was started in the year 1915 as a small Department of Materia Medica. This was later upgraded in the year 1965 as the Department of Pharmacology & Therapeutics.
Facilities:
There are separate laboratories for Undergraduates- Experimental Pharmacology & Pharmacy Laboratory. For Post Graduates & research there are PG & Research Laboratories, Molecular Biology & Clinical Pharmacology Laboratories.
Activities:
Teaching and training of MBBS, BDS, MD, MDS, PhD, BSc Nursing, MSc Nursing and Paramedical students.
The research interests of the department have been towards the discovery of new drugs, development of new techniques for studying various actions of drugs and elucidation of their mechanism of action.
An outstanding contribution from the department has been the discovery of the hypnotic activity of a new class of compounds- Quinazolones.
The department organizes Gujral-Bhargava Memorial Oration annually.
Department organizes Guest Lectures by eminent speakers for Undergraduate (UG) & Post graduate (PG) students.
ADR Monitoring Centre (AMC) has been allotted to the Department under the National Pharmacovigilance Program of India (NPvPI) by Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) on 15th December 2021. A Pharmacovigilance Committee and Casualty Assessment Committee has been constituted in the University.

Workshop on "essential medicines, adverse drug reactions and therapeutic drug monitoring" in year 2005.
Workshop on "relevance of modern methods of pharmacological studies to traditional medicines" in 2008.
Symposium on "CNS Biomarkers" in 2010.
Hands on training on “Pharmacovigilance and Drug Prescriptions Audit” by Dr.BikasMedhi on 18th November 2021.
