First and 2nd semester teaching is mainly focused on demonstration and foundation lectures. In 3rd, 4th and 5th semester's teaching done in long clinic postings. At the ends of long clinic posting ward leaving assessment are carried out by faculty member. In 6th and 7th semester systemic lectures are taken. In 8th and 9th semester teaching is through short clinic postings.

Case sheet audit by faculty
Frequency: Once a month

The P.G. students are required to write case records and progress of the patients admitted under their care. Two or three case sheets written by each resident are randomly selected from amongst case sheets deposited during the last one month. These case sheets are distributed amongst the faculty members who review them critically and comment on the quality of the content.

Collaboration with other departments
The Department of Psychiatry actively collaborates with other academic departments of King George's Medical University for providing training to post-graduate students. Third year junior residents of psychiatry are posted in Department of Neurology for a period of one month.Our M.Phil. clinical psychology students are also posted in variousspecialities like neurology, peadiatrics etc.Likewise, post-graduate students from other departments are also posted in the department from time-to-time. Presently, residents from Department of Neurology, SGPGI, students of BSc nursing and MSc psychiatric nursing are being posted at our department as per schedule.
Additional teaching and training programs
The department organizes various additional teaching and training programmes from time to time. Every year during the Foundation Day Programme, the department organizes workshops conducted by eminent external faculty. Professor Norman Sartorius, Professor V K Varma, Prof Dinesh Bhugra and Professor Rudra Prakash are few important participants of the past.
