Over the years the department has grown significantly and provides almost all types of neurosurgical services Functionally the department is divided in two types of services - Elective services and Emergency services.
Elective services
The elective services run in Shatabdi Hospital There are 42 general and 14 private beds and 4 operation theatres. All the 56 beds are motorized four section beds and all are in a centralized air conditioned wards Each bed has central suction and central oxygen supply ports One sister in charge, 24 staff nurses, 10 sick attendants and 12 sweepers work round the clock to provide essential services to the patients There is a guard for round the clock safety of patients, custodial cleaning services keeps the wards clean round the clock.
There are 4 modern state of the art operation theatres each equipped with a separate centralized air conditioning with HEPA filters, multiple central suction and central gas supply ports for anaesthesia, anaesthesia work stations (4 Drager, 1 LNT), neurosurgical operation tables and OT Lights (4), electrosurgical units (3 Vallylab, 2 Erbe, 2 LNT), electrical drill (2, Midas rex, Medtronic) Other important neurosurgical equipments available in OT are - Operating Microscope (1 Pentero, 2 Vario, 1 Sensera, Carl Zeiss), Neuroendoscopy system (Karl storz), Intraoperative Ultrasound (2, Aloka and Esaote), Ultrasonic Aspirator (2, Soring), Neuronavigation System (1, Brainlab), Stereotactic system (1, Inomed), Neurophysiological Monitoring System (2, Caldwell, Medtronic NIM eclipse), Mobile CT Scanner (1, Ceretom), C Arm (2, Seremobil Siemens and Allengers ) The routine OT runs 5 days a week (no routine OT on Saturday and Sunday), but elective emergencies (shunt, gliomas, re-explorations) are taken up 24x7 The Neuroanaesthesia is provided by 3 dedicated senior neuroanaesthetists and their team The neuropathology services are provided by a dedicated team of 3 senior neuropathologists.
The emergency services
The emergency services run from New Emergency Complex and Trauma Center of the University There are 47 dedicated neurotrauma beds (18 neurosurgery trauma postop beds and 4 neuro ICU beds ward on 1st floor, 25 neurosurgery beds 3rd floor) and one dedicated operation theater (runs 24x7) The trauma operation theaters is equipped with a centralized air conditioning, central suction and central oxygen supply ports for anesthesia, anesthesia work stations (2 Drager), neurosurgical operation tables (1, mizuho) and OT Lights (1, mizuho), electrosurgical units (2 Vallylab), electrical drill (1, Midas rex) Our Neuro ICU is well equipped with ventilators (4) and multipara monitors (4, ) with facilities of ICP monitoring At trauma center, along with our own 4 bedded neurosurgical ICU, we have the support of 24 bedded trauma ventilator unit All kinds of critical head injury (TBI), spinal injury (SCI), brain hemorrhage and other neurosurgical emergencies are managed here.
