The department of Clinical Hematology looks after blood and blood related disorders. These include nutritional anemias, haemolytic anemias, bone marrow failure syndromes, platelet disorders, myelodysplasias, bleeding and clotting disorders (haemophilia and others), leukemias, lymphomas, myeloma and other rare hematological malignant and non- malignant disorders and consultative hematology. Department currently has well trained consultants, senior residents and junior residents along with efficient nursing staff. Diagnostic facilities for basic investigations, coagulation, FNAC and bone marrow aspiration/biopsy are available in department. Our department is very active in academic and research activities. Bone marrow transplant has recently been started for myeloma and lymphomas.
A team from World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) visited KGMU: Plan to set up World Class center for Hemophilia Care.
A team from World federation of Hemophilia (WFH) visited on 16.1.2018 the Hemophilia Comprehensive Care Center at Department of Clinical Hematology. KGMU Lucknow. The team comprised of Dr. H M Den Berg (Netherland), Dr. Glenn Pierce (USA), Dr. Magdy Ekiaby (Egypt), Dr. Assad Haffer (Canada), Mr. SachiSatpathy, Mr. Vikas Goel (president HFI). The team met hemophilia patients at the center and lauded the exemplary work being done at the center for the comprehensive care of hemophilia patients where facilities for counseling, factor infusion, physiotherapy, surgery and rehabilitation exist. There are 550 patients registered at the center. This center is state of art center in North India. The factors are provided by the Government and administered free of cost to patients.
Dr. A.K. Tripathi, HOD and Incharge, Hemophilia Comprehensive Care Center thanked WFH for their generous support by providing factor concentrates. He discussed the challenges and unmet needs in hemophilia care and pointed out future plans. The team also visited Hon VC, Prof. MLB Bhatt and discussed various issues related to hemophilia management and suggested to start Academic exchange programme with KGMU. Prof. Bhatt welcomed the team and offered full support from the KGMU in any such endeavre to established world class hemophilia Care Center in the university. 3rd Indian Society of Hematology & Blood Transfusion and European Hematology Association Tutorial 16-18 Feb. 2018 Hotel Taj, Lucknow
3rd Indian Society of Hematology & Blood Transfusion and European hematology Association Tutorial was organized by the Department of Clinical Hematology, KG Medical University Lucknow. The theme of the conference was Lymphoid and Plasma cell malignancies. The organizing chairman was Dr. A.K. Tripathi, HOD, and Department of Clinical Hematology. It was inaugurated by the chief Guest, Sri Ashutosh Ji Tandon, Hon Minister, Medical Education UP. The Guest of Honour was Prof. MLB Bhatt, Hon VC, KGMU and special Guest was Dr. Deepak Malviya, Director, RML IMS Lucknow.Dr Gianluca Gaidano,Professor Hematology Department,IRCAD Amedeo Avogardo University, Italy was the international Organising Chairperson, from the EHA division.
The meeting was attended by 330 participants, including specialists and doctors from India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Spain, Italy, Ireland, Switzerland, and Netherlands.
First Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant in KGMU in a patient of Blood Cancer (Myeloma) March 13-14, 2018
The Department of Clinical Hematology, KGMU achieved a major milestone in the treatment of blood cancer. The patient Panne Lal, who was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma one and a half years back, responded to treatment initially and then relapsed within a year. He underwent autologous stem cell transplant in the Department of Clinical Hematology. Dr. A. K. Tripathi, Professor and Head of the Department has revealed that this is a big step forward in achieving the goal of providing best treatment to the poorest of the poor. He has thanked the whole team Which mainly included Dr. A.K. Tripathi and Dr. S.P. Verma (Clinical Hematology), Dr. Rashmi Kushwaha and Dr. Geeta Yadav (Department of Pathology) and Dr. Tulika Chandra (Transfusion Medicine) and Dr. Prashant from Microbiology.Dr. A.K. Tripathi has said that he has put in a demand for more man power and up-gradation of infrastructure so that the transplant unit can be run in full capacity and the Stem cell transplant can be made available to those who need it. Eventually the next step in the stem cell transplant is to advance to Allogeneic Hematopoietic Stem cell Transplantation in patients with aplastic anemia and thalassemia. Prof. MLB Bhatt, Hon' VC congratulated Dr. A.K. Tripathi and his team for this commendable work and appreciated that the Department of Clinical Hematology is achieving several milestones one by one and is paving a way in providing world class treatment to the common folks.

Production of a film in Hindi on Anemia "Sawarti Zindagi " released by Hon'ble Governor of UP. This film is about how anemia affects our society, how to recognize it and how to manage anemia in a very simplistic manner. This movie is a result of great efforts of Dr Prof A.K.Tripathi.
Hemophilia Orientation Programme Sep 18, 2015
An orientation programme on hemophilia was conducted on September 18,2015 in Selby Hall of KGMU. This programme was organized by department of Clinical hematology, KGMU in association with department of Medical, Health and Family Welfare, UP. Delegates were specialist medical officers, surgeons and orthopedicians from various districts of Uttar Pradesh. Varoius national speakers and experts in field of hemophilia gave orientatation talk on various aspects of hemophilia including diagnosis, management of disease and its complications.
Indian Society of Hematology& Blood transfusion Annual State level Quiz (Uttar Pradesh)-2015
The state level round of Haematology quiz under the aegis of ISHTM for the state of Uttar Pradesh was successfully conducted at King George's Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow on 12th September, 2015.
The quiz was organised and conducted under the guidance of Prof A.K Tripathi (Head, Department of Clinical Hematology, KGMU) by Dr.Shailendra Prasad Verma (Assistant Professorr, Department of Clinical Hematology, KGMU) and Dr.Mili Jain (Lecturer, Department of Pathology, KGMU). We had enthusiastic participation by postgraduate students of Pathology, Medicine and Paediatrics from various colleges all over the state. A total of 17 teams with 48 participants were enrolled for the quiz. Teams from BHU Varanasi, KGMU Lucknow and MLN medical college Allahabad stood 1st , 2nd and 3rd respectively.
National Hematology Update 12 September 2015
Department of Clinical hematology, KGMU Lucknow in association with lucknow hematology group organized National hematology update in Kalam centre, KGMU on 12th September 2015. Delegates from various parts of Uttar Pradesh and other states including practitioners, academicians and students participated in this event. This successful event was enriched with knowledge and experience of eminent speakers on various topics like Myeloproliferative neoplasms and hemolytic anemias.
Foundation Day and CME " Current concepts in Hematology" August 9, 2014
Department of clinical hematology celebrated its foundation day on August 9,2014. Respected Vice chancellor KGMU and other dignitaries graced this occasion with their presence. Dr Subhash Verma, Professor and head of clinical hematology PGI Chandigarh, was invited as a guest speaker for Oration lecture..He delivered a lecture on Venous thrombosis: Indian perspective. This oration was very useful for physicians, hematologists and all surgeons in current clinical practice. This event was followed by CME in Hematology: current concepts in hematology.
State level Hematology Quiz, July 2014
State level annual ISHBT quiz was organized by department of clinical hematology, KGMU in july 2014. This event was organized at sellby hall of KGMU. Eight teams from various Medical colleges of UP participated in this event. KGMU team was the first winner. The enthusiasm of students participating in this quiz was superb. We hope that this activity will definitely increase interest of these young students in pursuing Clinical hematology as their carrier.
International update on "CHRONIC MYELOID LEUKEMIA" 2013
Department of Clinical Hematology & Medical Oncology organized an International update on "CHRONIC MYELOID LEUKEMIA" 25th March 2013 at PHI Auditorium, King George's Medical Un iversity Lucknow. Prof .D.K. Gupta (Vice-Chancellor, K.G's. Medical University) was the chief guest for the event.) Dr. Susan Branford from Australia and Dr. Francois Guilhot from France were other guests of honour. The event witnessed a huge gathering of delegates, faculty, practitioners and residents from all over the state.
