History
Public Health Dentistry Department was under the Department of Periodontics since inception. In 2009, Dr.Vinay Kumar Gupta joined the Department as Lecturer, after sometime he became Acting Head with under supervision of Dr. Jaya Dixit, Head, Department of Periodontics. In 2015, Dr Vinay Kumar Gupta became Officiating Head (independent charge). In 2019, Dr. Vinay Kumar Gupta became Head of the department.
Departmental Activities:
•OPD
Department: UG and PG OPD - Daily at 2nd Floor, Old Dental Building, Faculty of Dental Sciences of KGMU.
Sarojini Nagar: Monday, Wednesday and Friday; in the building of Primary Health Centre, Sarojini Nagar.
Banthara:Monday, Wednesday and Friday;in the building of Rural Health Training Centre, Banthara.
• Oral Health Education Section (Museum):Education regardingmethods of prevention of Oral Diseases is regularly being rendered In Oral Health Education section (Museum) of the department with the help of posters, charts and models
• Tooth Brushing Room:There is one of its kindsection in the Department which is exclusively devoted to educate the Patients and their attendants regarding the correct method of tooth brushing.
• Tobacco Cessation Centre: Tobacco CessationCentre is functional in the department which was inaugurated on 31st May 2019, World No Tobacco Day by the then Vice Chancellor Dr M.L.B. Bhatt and the then Dean of Faculty of Dental Sciences Dr. Shadab Mohammad. Many patients have been motivated to quit tobacco and many of those have successfully quit the tobacco after getting the assistance and Advice about the process.
• Oral health Education in Pediatric OPD: Department started a program for mother's to educate mother about their children’s oral health in Pediatric Out Patient Department wing of KGMU.
• Oral cancer screening: Oral cancer screening activities are conducted regularly for general population.
• Outreach Activities in Schools:Screening and oral health education specially regarding ways to prevent oral diseases and correct method of tooth brushing among school children is also conducted regularly by the department. Treatment camps are also conducted for school children as per the requirement. Department has adopted two schools and is providing them possible dental treatment and regular activities related to oral health.
• Outreach Activities for general population:Department conducts screening and oral health education activities for various population. Department actively stands against Cancer by conducting. Department has adopted one village and is providing them possible dental treatment and regular activities related to oral health.
Celebration of Days of Importance:
• World No Tobacco Day celebrated on 31st may by educating regarding the ill-effects of tobacco and Screened for oral pre-malignant and malignant lesions.
• World Oral Hygiene Day, celebrated on 1st August by creating awareness regarding good oral Hygiene among the masses.
• Dentist day, celebrated on 6th March.
• World Health Day celebrated on 7th April.
• Tooth brushing day on 7th November.
• National Public Health Dentistry Day on 19th June.
• World Cancer Day on 4th February.
• World Environment Day on 5th June.
• Mouth Cancer awareness day on 20th September.
ACHIEVEMENTS:
• Department completed a Govt. of India pilot project on "Pit and Fissure Sealant Application in school children". The project was inaugurated by Smt. Anupriya Patel, Minister of state, Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India and Mr. SiddharthNath Singh, Health Minister Government of Uttar Pradesh on 26th September 2017 at KGMU.
• Department facilitated a Regional Review Meeting of NOHP at KGMU on 25th September 2017 in which nodal officers of 8 states participated.
• Department also facilitated the launch of Tobacco Free India Campaign on 26th September 2017.
RECENT ACHIEVEMENTS:
• Post Graduate Program: Department started M.D.S.course with 3 PG seats in 2022. P.G. clinic is functional for providing Comprehensive oral health.
• Mobile Dental Unit:Department has a highly-equipped Mobile Dental Van, which has all the latest equipment and facilities to provide all kinds of oral health care in any remote location.
• Increase in research publication: Number of research publications are getting increased every year.
Department has a well equipped Mobile Dental Van which has all the latest dental equipments and facilities for providing all kinds of dental treatments within it.
