The Department of Rheumatology was created at King George's Medical University vide Government Order No 778/71-
3-2006-KG-96/2004 dated 21.3.06. with a grant of Rs. 7.18 crore (about US $1.7 million). This includes a grant for a new building, personnel and equipment required to make it into a viable and vibrant patient care and research center.
Rehumatic diseases, present with musculoskeletal pain, and are very common. About 20 % of population suffers from
musculoskeletal pain at any given point of time. The once in a lifetime prevalence is 100%, that is, everyone will suffer
from a rheumatic illness in his/her lifetime.
Objective
The following are the objectives of the Department of Rheumatology.
1. Training / Teaching in Rheumatology
2. Research to develop newer techniques for diagnosis and management of rheumatological problems.
3. Patient Care
Building
The Department of Rheumatology is housed in a three storied building in the premises of Lal Bahadur Shastri Kendra
(Formerly known as RALC) and Infectious Disease Hospital. The building houses the wards, the offices and modern research labs, Physiotherapy Room, BMD Room and a small canteen.
Special Activity
Physiotherapy is being provided to indoor and outdoor patients whenever required by a fulltime physiotherapist working in the Rheumatology department.
Bed Strength
30-bedded ward which includes in 24 general beds general, 4 private beds, and 2 day care beds..
