At Under- Graduation level:

First and 2nd semester teaching is mainly focused on demonstration and foundation lectures. In 3rd, 4th and 5th semester's teaching done in long clinic postings. At the ends of long clinic posting ward leaving assessment are carried out by faculty member. In 6th and 7th semester systemic lectures are taken. In 8th and 9th semester teaching is through short clinic postings.

At Post Graduation level:

Journal club-

Frequency: Once a month
Time & Day: 2:00 PM onwards on Thursday
Duration: 2 Hour; 1 Hour for presentation and comments, 1 Hour for discussion

Spot Cases-

Objective: To prepare examination going candidates for MD examination. Only PG students
In their 3rd year of residency participate in this activity. Each candidate is required to make at least two presentations.
Frequency: weekly
Time & Day: 2:00 PM onwards every Wednesday.
Duration: 2 hour: 1 hour for evaluation and working up the case, 1 hour for presentation and discussion.
Presented by: One of the 3rd year P.G. students (examination going batch) as per schedule. This candidate is allotted a case by one of the faculty members and allowed a time of 1 hour to prepare his presentation.
Conducted by: Teaching faculty member as per schedule.
Attended by: All 3rd year PG students (i.e. exam going batch)

Psychotherapeutic group meeting

Frequency: Once a month
Time & Day: 2:00 PM onwards on 3rd Thursday
Duration: 2 Hour; 1 Hour for presentation of case and discussion of psychotherapy sessions, 1 Hour for discussion

Consultation Liaison Psychiatry

Frequency: Once a month
Time & Day: 2:00 PM onwards on 4th Thursday
Duration: 2 Hour; 1 Hour for presentation of case, 1 Hour for discussion

Case sheet audit by faculty

Frequency: Once a month
Time and day: 2:00 PM onwards on Thursday
The P.G. students are required to write case records and progress of the patients admitted under their care. Two or three case sheets written by each resident are randomly selected from amongst case sheets deposited during the last one month. These case sheets are distributed amongst the faculty members who review them critically and comment on the quality of the content.

Collaboration with other departments

The Department of Psychiatry actively collaborates with other academic departments of King George's Medical University for providing training to post-graduate students. Third year junior residents of psychiatry are posted in Department of Neurology for a period of one month.Our M.Phil. clinical psychology students are also posted in variousspecialities like neurology, peadiatrics etc.Likewise, post-graduate students from other departments are also posted in the department from time-to-time. Presently, residents from Department of Neurology, SGPGI, students of BSc nursing and MSc psychiatric nursing are being posted at our department as per schedule.

Additional teaching and training programs

The department organizes various additional teaching and training programmes from time to time. Every year during the Foundation Day Programme, the department organizes workshops conducted by eminent external faculty. Professor Norman Sartorius, Professor V K Varma, Prof Dinesh Bhugra and Professor Rudra Prakash are few important participants of the past. Last year three workshops were conducted in the department, namely: Workshop on Cognitive Behavior Therapy by Dr. Arun K Gupta between October'15

The department of psychiatry had also provided training to various paramedical staffs and doctors working with OST centers in the state of Uttar Pradesh , Uttarakhand, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab under NACO,
The department of psychiatry is also providing training to various paramedical staffs and doctors working with district mental health programme over past two decades.
Written and practical exam of MD students every six monthly

Didactic Teaching

Training of junior resident of department of social and preventive medicine.
